Comments: "the Mermaid and the Fisherman"
The city of Gdansk is where a fisherman lives and he has a dream to own his own ship. He also has a loving wife and beautiful kind hearted daughter.
The art style is perfect for this old world story. It is a fairy tale yet told not quiet like one. This fisherman does catch a mermaid and being the self caring man he is he just uses her for his own enjoyment and does not care about her or anyone else.
This is such a sad tale. The fisherman throws away the great life he had. Just because he wanted more, he was greedy. Than he searches to try to get a life of happiness. In the end he realizes he was happy and he throw it all away.
The mermaid is illustrated as a sad creature once caught you just feel sad for her. The fisherman for capturing her you think you might feel anger for but you just feel pity for him.
One does not have to go far or look hard to find what is right before you.

Comments: "Empress Wu"
Here is the story of the Goddess Nuwa. She lived in the world but was alone. So she created animals and than humans. Nuwa is a loving, kind Goddess. Her creations were like her and peace reigned. Yes it was a paradise.
Every paradise though has its faults and so some were created in Nuwa's. Nuwa saw that they survived the humans she had created. She did love them. The drawings bring out her loving emotions for you to clearly see.
This is a story about creation. It is an Japanese tale based on Nuwa. The love she puts into creating is a wonderful thing to see. Her last gift to humans is the best one she could possibly give them.
This comic flows along so smoothly as you read this magical story and enjoy the wondrous art.
Nuwa is not your typical Goddess she cares. Having her being half snake you might think that would lead to an evil side but no everything about Nuwa is good. She is the Goddess humanity deserved at the beginning. Nuwa is love.

Comments: "One Spared To The Sea"
A young girls act of kindness is returned. Willa does have a kind heart. She did not expect her act of kindness to ever come back. She did it just because she is a good person.
The art has a soft look with a rough side that fits the life style of the people shown.
This story is not really about Sirens it is about Selkies. Both are water creatures.
The story focuses on love. Love for ones family. Willa is a beautiful young girl and she does the right thing for a young female Selkie.
Yes one for the sea leads to three for the land. One saved leads to three saved. A more then fair trade but it is not a trade it is a pass it forward.
The Selkies in human form do seem just like any other mother and daughter.
This is a tale of love with a touch of magic.

Comments: "Lorelei: Daughter of the Rhine"
The town of Wochara is home to Lorelei who lives below the waves and provides the towns people with gold. Now Sofia and Heinrich are in love. Lorelei finds that wanting Heinrich the man of a witch such as Sofia was not wise. The town's people have built up Lorelei as a beautiful mermaid who helps them out. She only asks for one man a year to become her husband in her castle or so the town's people think.
The art does show Lorelei as a beautiful mermaid. Until she is offended than she is drawn as a vengeful creature.
The storyteller and his dog add so much to this book. Their personalities help to bring out the story of the mermaid.
Lorelei knew what she expected and the townsfolk gave it to her. Just the people came to believe they were not doing what they really were. People to get what they want will believe anything they want.
Lorelei was just helping out the townsfolk. She was following her nature. It is wonderful to see how she acts and reacts and the same for the townspeople.
