I first noticed Outlander as STARZ television Season one DVD. This is based on a series of books wrote by Diana Gabaldon. Series was # 1 best seller. I liked imagination of first four episodes of season one. I went back to library to get rest of disks for season one. There have been 3 seasons of series on television. At present time 8 books have been published. These are novels without graphic art. The author is working on book 9 of series. I liked story due to idea of time travel.
The back cover of novel states
The year is 1945, Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon - when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach -an "outlander"- in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the Year of Our Lord... 1743.
Hurled back in time by forces she can not understand, Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life... and shatter her heart. For here James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire... and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives. The books are Bantam Books. Book one was $ 18 dollars at time of publication in 2014 as movie tie-in version. Actual first book was published in 1991.
I have really enjoyed how Claire has adapted to life in 1743. I am not sure how she is going to return to 1943. I am so curious that I have ordered novels in Outlander series from library. I have also now also checked out remainder of season one and now season two of series from library.
I think more of an adult series with some very adult themes. Author was very vivid with imagination as to how law was given to people that stole from others. Also, scene in show show child thought to be controlled by demons. He was actually suffering from food poisoning. Culture at time did not take kindly recognizing that child was not actually possessed by demon.
Season 3 of television series is based on book three of series named "Voyager. " I imagine episodes will take while to get on DVD.
I rate this series on STARZ network very highly. It has captured my attention quickly. I want to learn more about Claire Randall's adventures in 1743.
I also noticed there is separate story in series called "The Exile" which is a graphic novel.
