Classic present-day horror.
Main character: Man around 30 has bad luck. He is a lieutenant. He stops into coffee house named Cafe Frankenstein European House. He had never seen place even though had driven on road many times. He pays 1.75 for cup of coffee. The coins he flips into jar on cashier counter. One of the coins lands in jar on edge. The proprietor says that would never happen in again in million years. He also tells person that was in armed service that was lucky day. Things quickly change for man. He can start hearing people's unspoken thoughts. This gets him into lots of trouble. It is obvious at start of story there is much more to store owner than ordinary person.
His ability to hear other people's thoughts would only continue until coin fell off edge at coffee shop. Also, just because read thoughts might not be true meaning.
I think name Cafe Frankenstein should have been first sign to lieutenant that spooky next few hours were not normal. His coin did not land on edge by just luck. It stayed very long time on edge. The picture on outside of Cafe even showed Frankenstein drinking coffee.
