Jim Kay also did art for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is a special edition authorized by J.K. Rowling. J.K. Rowling is best known as the author of seven Harry Potter books, which were published between 1997 and 2007. Goblet of Fire was fourth book in Harry Potter series. The enduring adventures of Harry, Ron, and Hermione have sold over 500 million copies, have been translated into over 80 languages, and made into eight blockbuster films. The last of 8 books made into movies was released in 2011.
I like Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire illustrated edition. Jim Kay added splendid artwork as he did with first three Harry Potter books. The text is the same as 2000 novel. I think illustrated edition is great companion to other books of series drawn by Jim Kay. I loved how there were even several two full page color spreads that could have even be made into companion magazine tear out format. Just an idea and did not get published in that kind of format. The book is hard cover. It is enhanced to be desired by individuals who want to see artwork with book not present in 2000 version. It is interesting to see depictions of Dobby, the Hungarian Horntail, and many other scenes only left to vivid imaginations. I really appreciated art by Jim Kay. Like the other books in illustrated versions book mark is included to help keep place of page that finished reading. The same sort of non-removable book mark was also in other three books.
I actually got Harry Potter and Goblet of Secrets illustrated version book from library. The book is sold online. I suppose bookstores would have it on shelf or be able to order through catalogue of books sold.
Jim Kay won the Kate Greenaway metal in 2012 for his illustrations in A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. He studied illustration at the University of Westminster, and worked in the Library & Archives of Tate Britain and then as an assistant curator of botanical illustrations at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew before returning to producing art full-time. After a one-man exhibition at the Richmond Gallery, he was approached by a publisher and his freelance career began. Alongside his illustration work, Jim has produced concept work for film and television, and contributed to the group exhibition Memory Palace at the V&A museum in London. Jim works and lives in Northhamptonshire, England, with his wife.
This is what inside cover says about Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire illustrated edition.
Harry Potter wants to get away from the pernicious Dursleys and go to the Quidditch World Cup with Hermione, Ron and the Weasleys. He wants to dream about Cho Chang, his crush (and maybe do more than dream). He wants to find out about the mysterious event involving two other rival schools of magic, and a competition that hasn’t happened in hundreds of years. He wants to be a normal fourteen-year-old wizard.
Unfortunately for Harry Potter, he’s not normal; He’s different – even by wizarding standards. And in his case, different can be deadly.
The fourth book of the Harry Potter series, now illustrated in stunning full color by award-winning artist Jim Kay.
The back cover has a quote:
“I love seeing Jim Kay’s interpretation of Harry Potter’s world, and I feel honored and grateful that he continues to lend his talent to it.”
