Comments: The planet of Arrakis also known as Dune is a desert planet where Spice is found. Spice is life.
Baron Hakonnen is a hard man working for his Emperor. He cares about the spice more than lives. The technology showed makes it clear this is in a far future.
Kaitain is the planet where the Emperor lives. Pardot Kynes has an audience with Emperor Elrood IX he was summoned. The Emperor comes across as a stuck up idiot yet he does rule an empire.
On Caladan we see Leto Atreides he gets to watch a primitive ritual. The violence of the ritual is low key even though it leads to death.
The Emperor it seems has his enemies. They want a change.
The story is hard to follow. It does introduce the main characters yet it does not go into why they are here. The set up should have explained more. None of the characters jump out at you. They are presented to blandly. They are here but why should we care. Many things are mentioned from the books by Frank Herbert and from the movie just that none of them are fully talked about or shown as you would expect.
It will be interesting to see where this series goes.

Comments: The Harkonnen rule Arrakis aka Dune.
Imperial Planetologist Pardot Kynes does seem like a good man who enjoys his job. He is going out in the desert looking for sandworms. He does get his wish and the creature is huge. The hunter with him does not get his wish. You will be glad he does not.
The Bene Gesserit headquarters is an impressive sight. The Sisterhood has a plan which has been in the planning for generations.
Duncan Idaho we see him at age eight. His life just keeps getting worse and worse. Yet it is easy to see potential in him.
Leto Atreides makes his appearance.
We are introduced to a few of the major players this issue. The characters are falling into place. The setting is shown. The story lines are hinted at. Everything is getting set up to deliver a gripping story.
The best part of this issue is seeing the majestic sandworm that the locals consider onto a god. The worst part is how it is treated by the Harkonnen's. The enormous creature is an awesome sight.

Comments: The Harkonnen Baron meets with the Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam a Bene Gesserit. Both have huge attitudes. Both are stubborn. Gaius though does want something from the Baron.
The landscape is illustrated visually stunning.
Duncan is a boy on the run fighting for his life. Those fighting for their lives can become hunters to. Duncan is a survivor.
Leto Atreides joins Prince Rhombur of House Vernius on a machine planet. Very nice architecture within the machine planet.
As we see each different planet we learn more about this universe and those within it. We start to learn how things are run and why people act the way they do here.
On Arrakis Pardot Kynes, Imperial Planetologist does get his wish. They show two Fremen wasting liquid which is so unlike they would actually be.
This issue is still building up the places and characters setting in motion for the grand story unfolding. All the people here are interesting and ones you do want to know more about also the world or rather universe they live in. There is so much happening yet it is presented in a way for you to easily follow it. The court intrigue is building and things are in motion. This comic is one to watch.

Comments: Duncan Idaho is on the run and trying to survive. Lord Rabban and his men are hunting Duncan.
Baron Harkonnen and a Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam a Bene Gesserit with these two it is easy to see the hatred between them. Yet here they must work together to achieve their goals.
Prince Rhombur and Leto are both training in the fighting arts. Leto is a show off for a pretty girl. Leto we see is just like any other boy wanting the females approval.
On Arrakis Pardot Kynes meets the Fremen. He is enthusiastic about the planet Dune. He is a likable man and a good man who does just want to help.
So many people are making so many plans. Plans to commit murder even. Some people do just make you want to hate them as they are so vile and evil.
In IX the Grand Palais of House Vernius here the working classes are apparent. The rich live above and the poor live below and the ones below do not like those above.
The scenes keep flipping from one place and group of people to another. The way each scene is labelled makes it easy to follow otherwise it would be confusing.
Te characters are so rich and as you read more you want to know more. The story is huge and it engulfs you drawing you in. As you meet each character you just know things are going to happen and they are going to make them happen.

Comments: Planetologist Kynes does find himself in a situation. He plans to remake Dune aka Arrakis. He is a man with vision. Only sometimes remaking a place better is not for the better.
At the Grand Palais on IX here there is talk of the labor force being unhappy. Could this mean a rebellion is coming?
On Kaitain the Imperial Majesty is given a most impressive deal. Here there is lots of court drama. A Prince desires to become more. He is one insidious man.
On Arrakis Planetologist Kynes is filled with hope for the planet and the people who live there. His hope is infectious. His words protect him because they deliver his message of a better world. He inspires people.
At the Grand Palais on IX a rebellion has started and is in full force. Explosions and violence are everywhere.
On the planet Caladan Duncan Idaho and he is looking for Duke Paulus Atreides. Duncan is a little boy yet his focus comes through loud and clear.
The sci-fi art is gorgeously done. The technology is simple yet looks amazing. The people's expressions are well done. The colors stand out.
This is an adventure you will enjoy going on.

Comments: A revolt is going on. Earl Dominic Vernius in the city of Vernii is doing all he can.
Emperor Elrood acts by doing nothing to help the Earl. There are court intrigues going on here. Lives are at stake. Now the Royal Family must flee for their very lives. They do make a desperate attempt.
The Bene Gesserit breed for strength. They are like a cult or religion of all women. They want to keep their line strong.
The story does skip around a lot between different planets yet it is done well enough for you to follow. The settings do fit the story.
Duncan Idaho makes it to Duke Paulus Atreides and so a major part of this story will start. He is such a wonderful character. He is drawn with hope as he is still young.
This is a soap opera in space. There is so much going on. This is not just about one revolt or a Kingdom's changing of the guard. This is about a Empire being created. It is about the planet Dune and how important it is becoming.
The Sandworm's are huge creatures to be respected and feared. Yet some would use them. They are like God's of the desert.

Comments: Duncan Idaho faces a Salusan Bull. This creature is huge and mean spirited. Duncan knows something is wrong yet no one listens to him. The bulls are not as they should be. Duncan does stand out as the main character the one you will most remember and notice.
The Bene Gesserit they have a plan and Jessica a new born is at the heart of it. The Bene Gesserit have always had a plan. These women are strong and set in their ways.
Duke Atreides finds a bull fight leads to more than is expected much more. How will things go after this set of stunning events at least for some it was stunning.
On Arrakis Umma Kynes learns how to ride a Sandworm. These creatures are amazing and the illustrations of them here capture their essence. The Sandworms are in the background yet they have a way of standing out. These creatures are so much more then just a dessert worm.
There are a number of different setting where the story takes place and they are all nicely tied in together.

Comments: At Kaitain Landsraad Court the trial of Duke Leto Atreides has begun. The Tleilaxu plan to defeat Leto and prove him guilty. They have their plans for him should he lose.
The Crown Prince Shaddam is pulled in by Leto to help him in his trial. The trial was played up a lot in previous issues. Then in this issue it is kind of a let down the way it is handled.
In the Imperial City we get to watch the Coronation of Emperor Shaddam IV. He is done for now with the Atreides House. The Harkonnen's though are fra from done interfering in the affairs of others.
