Major Sinbad characters: Sinbad, Quni, Prince Moqari, Kar-Tyr.
Space Schooner Pirates Captain is named Rhanjan Vix. The ship name is "The Blue Star".
Story in issue 1 starts out with Sinbad fighting huge armored creature on Mars called Thelyphon. Sinbad's crew gets rescued from Mars desert after victorious battle by Caption Rhanjan Vix.
It was mentioned in text that when Sinbad first arrived on Mars, many believed he was prophesized savior of planet. This sets up scene in future time on "The Blue Star". The ship gets close because off-course to city of Arandas. The young teen Prince MoQari says that a mysterious hidden artifact is there. The prince wonders aloud if artifact would help Sinbad group overthrow Aledhar who is Emperor of Mars. The first mate on ship is spy for Aledhar.
Sinbad crew mate Kar-Tyr tells Captain that the artifact is said to be worth many treasures and is hidden within walls of city Arandas.
The captain consults with his ship mate Zho. The crew on "The Blue Star" decide to seek treasure. There is also an interior motive by captain to hope to find out who altered ships course and who might be spy.
The spy who is the First Mate relays information to Emperor Akdhar. What occurred to spy was rather gruesome scene. The issue does not tell if find artifact. The story is continued in following issue.
I loved the art and story. This is far different that biography comic books from Bluewater and now named Tidalwave Comics.
I am not sure if story is based on a short story or novel about Sinbad. It also sparked my imagination to order some Sinbad stories from library.
This comic book is not new.
Here is what I found. 4 issues in series under Ray Harryhausen Presents theme.
