Setting: The U.S.S. Montgomery which is an outer space colony ship. Earth is on verge of dying. Colonists are taken by ship to place to start new lives. There are dangerous people that do not want crews to survive. The story sets up what if situation. What if someone from separatist group killed all the adults on The U.S.S. Montgomery. The Artificial intelligence system of ship named VALARIE is taught how to do more than programmed for to save the children on board ship with all adult's dead. The story captured my imagination. I was also really impressed by Gabriel Walta art work. I did not know how children that were pre-teen could survive without parents? How would A.I. keep children alive for full year journey? I was really kept in suspense! Were there any other separatist groups on other colony ships? Some of those questions were resolved in six issue series.
I think comic book series could be translated into a cartoon or movie.
I think teen to adult reading range.
The book is by Eisner award winners Jeff Lemire (Black Hammer) and Gabriel H. Walta (The Vision). Sentient is also a Will Eisner nominee.
I am next going to read "The World of Black Hammer". I was really impressed with Jeff Lemire writing on "Sentient".
