This is true story about R. J. Kinderman and his friend Denise. They are both in age of 20’s. The book tells of adventures of two friends biking from Vancouver, British Columbia on June 20th, 1981. They biked all the way to Owls Head Maine ending on August 8th, 1981 on speed pedal bikes. The journey was 3725 miles
They journeyed together. They had many adventures. They met many interesting people. They had some amazing adventures. There were also difficult times like blown tires or broken spokes. The difficult times of biking in rain. Times of riding on roads with traffic inches from them as they rode on side parts of busy highways. The friends they met along way on journey. The difficult times when before cell phones. They also had only $475 dollars cash for entire journey.
The book also had many personal pictures or color photos near center of book.
The book was inspirational. I almost felt like reading about super-heroes. The trip was epic in scope.
I got idea to read book when actually met author at Farmer’s Market in my area. R. J. Kinderman was one of vendors. He was selling book. He also wrote two other children’s books about biking rides around places in North America.
“Tailwind’s Across America” I think is teen to adult type book. The book ended to quick for me. I thought excellent writing from perspective of two people that took time for very difficult journey.
It was told from person that did journey than wrote about adventure with Denise twenty years later.
The end of book says: R. J. Kinderman is a recently retired high school principal living with his wife Denise and their dog Kiki on their farm in northwestern Wisconsin. With free time in his life once again, he embarked on his latest adventure of writing Tailwinds across America.
