NMM x Night Love x Norwegian Witch Trials
Several witch trials were held throughout Denmark & various nearby regions with an estimated 350 executions alone in Norway.
Witches were considered much different people than they are understood to be nowadays.
The old English standard definition of a witch, is basically a female criminal, who is against Christ or an unpleasent older woman.
However, they are far different from the Wiccans who formed an official religion in the 1950's.
The witches as they were known to be then, were not just hanged for no reason, but there had been a sudden realization of power in the countryside,
of which women were deemed too emotional & weird to succumb & rule within this hierarchy power structure alone.
The witches could also be a collective of ethnic religions, paganism and misappropriated themes of other cultures.
They in fact, were so scary to the communities that they were murdered in plain sight to assure they could not come back to haunt the people again.

The witch trials in Norway were considered to be the most intense of all of them.
These deaths occurred between 1561 and 1760.

During this period of time, Norway & Denmark were very closely in union with their values & laws.
The capital of Denmark, Copenhagen was where the political structures had originally formed, and from there the other cities mostly copied the actions due to the popular opinions on religion and politics of the times.
While the death sentence is a very harsh punishment,
they had reason to fear the immorality of the said "witches," who seemed to do as they pleased sexually and in general, which caused them to be shamed by the communities.
Today, we have a different standard on religious crimes, however even the mainstream murders spread to America and Salem, Massachusetts & had its own trials soon after.

The Salem witch trials were thought to have occurred officially between the years 1692- 1693.
Yet, due to the deep misunderstanding of history & folklore,
what remains as a horrendous murderous punishment system is now exploited and celebrated.
We celebrate these mystical beings on dates like Halloween, along with all the other monsters we consider humans to become, when they deter from a path of virtuosity.

Often times the first witches to exist are credited to Salem, but this is entirely incorrect.
The "witch" who was punished, burned & tested to be soulless was found many centuries before, farther even in mythology of other cultures and religions.
Yet, we have the 'old English' adaptations of witchcraft generally in the states.
Which they are very misrepresented,
often lacking true facts or history itself of other regions and locals.

Today,
our system of trials is completely different and often times it takes much longer for people to be judged.
The way things worked during the establishment of America was definitely a quick-thinking method, with a survivor's mentality in mind.
We don't just automatically sentence people to imprisonment and death, but rather a fair trial and hearing is had of several variety of people to decide such matters.
These people as well have a higher understanding of their purpose than someone who was blazing over the new trails of a country to establish dominance and authority very quickly.

Reason is that many Norwegians were very Christian people and they adored angels and Christ like images and surroundings,
so, to them a deranged woman speaking to herself, or any such similar behaviors was of Satan. It would seem like a powerful spell.
But, of course witches do exist in many contexts, but whether they themselves are evil or their acts is the same determining factor in all human beings, a common thread of humanity seems to ignite the soul, while the devil seems to beckon for death, poison and discourse.
It would have been very frightening to think about someone in the community sabotaging each other and they did not have the science which we have today to understand several mental illnesses or even a paranormal reality, which has come to be accepted as a Christian manner to some.
Despite ancient history, it is never an excuse to put someone to death for their faith or whichever it may be, unless they are directly harming the population & themselves.
Many women were powerless during these times, so it would be easy to understand why they would rise up against religious authorities, especially when they were so highly honored and respected as leaders.

In fact, the first witches in Salem known to be tried named Sarah Good & Osborne, (March 1) had a slave who was native American (Tituba). So, there is definitely a deep racial emphasis on those who misappropriated other cultures and customs and as we know, many ethnic belief systems are considered Satanic by older traditional Christians & conservatives.
The Salem witch trials only occurred this harshly for approximately one year, while in other places they were going on for centuries.
In England, the trials were predominately from the 15th century to the 18th, with over 500 deaths.

You could either be afflicted or accused of witchcraft. To be afflicted meant that someone had done witchcraft to you and you were showing signs of mental & physical illness or bad luck. To be the one doing the curses or suspected would make you become the accused criminal.
So, to punish the witches they would inflict similar tortures on their bodies, like pin pricking, choking etc. & they would see how they reacted in order to determine the truth of magical justice.
Which we know today, how hard it is to prove the effects and workings on magic on someone's life force, so therefore the power of the criminal is taken away completely.
Over 150 people were arrested for this type of behavior.

Because the witch trials in Denmark are poorly documented, (unlike Salems.) it is hard to say with exactness how many deaths occurred precisely.
There is a notable place called Jylland & they had excellent record documentations from the 1609-1687 period of time.
The Danish witchcraft persecutions was at its highest peak during the "Great Witch Hunt' of 1617-1625.
It was not stopped until an act called the Witchcraft Act was put into place officially laying out the lines of holy justice.
Germany is credited with having the most witch trials. In Early modern Europe, especially the highest concentration of trials occurred between 1561-1670.
In France,
there were so many different jurisdictions that the laws took a long time to pass and so the witch hunting was severely different between each local court system.
Most of the recorded ones actually occurred in the 18th century, which was way later then the starting of the spread of terror and discrimination towards these certain people in other lands.
Most of the people in France did not consider only women to be witches, but many men were still sentenced to death too.
There were thousands of trials in France alone.
