Along with the many fairytales & myths that my grandmother used to read to me from German fairytale books & Greek mythology, she also gave me printed out papers of her favorite stories, like the velveteen rabbit and paper dolls too.
Paper dolls are cut out pieces of hard construction material. They have several outfits and accessories, but since they are made of something very wearable- they are destroyed very easily.
Some can be filled in with markers & crayons yourself- while the other ones are premade.

Paper dolls are not very popular today, but in vintage times- they were very widespread and appreciated.
Paper dolls are said to have been originated from thousands of years ago, at least since the beginning of paper.
However, it is very hard to find some which are still in existence and proper condition.

The Japanese culture their selves used them, in a variety of ways, for religious ceremonies as far back as 800D.
Animals were also a basic origami paper shape too.
The art of origami itself is usually thought to have begun in Japan around the 17th century ad.
Although, paper was first made, and folded, in China in the first or second century.
The Chinese people invented paper around or about 100 A.D..

The first manufactured paper doll was produced by S&J Fuller, in London, during 1810.
In France especially, the first paper dolls were most popular since the mid-18th century.
The oldest known paper doll card is hosted by Germanischer National museum and was printed around 1650 in South Germany.
The paper was connected together at certain angles. They were known as "pantins"- meaning dancing or jumping jack puppet.
It was known as an art form of high-class humor, wisdom and entertainment...
