Story is about Reba McEntire. The story is told as if Reba were narrator. Fist starting as Reba as child than teen and adult. She came from a ranch family and did rodeo barrel racing. Her first breaks in singing were shown. There was a time even on television show called “Reba” and most recently “Young Sheldon.” She also appeared in several movies.
Reba started singing with her family at about pre adult age. The group was called “The Singing McEntires.” Reba was really good with guitar. Reba got her big break, at National Rodeo Finals, Oklahoma City: December 10th, 1974. A recording manager named Red Steagall caught her singing National Athem an practictically had a pen and contract the same day. The story tells how she soon went on to crack the top 20 in songs. Than got her first top ten hit with song “(You Lift Me) Up to Heaven”. Song reached # 8 in 1980. She had her first # 1 hit in 1984 with single song called “How Blue”. Reba also won Country Music Award her first time nominated.
Reba also as mentioned also got acting bug. This happened about time switched music contract to MCA records. She was cast in sci-fi horror flick called “Tremors.” She soon had many appearances in movies and television shows. She even did cow “Moo” sound in cartoon movie “Charlotte’s Web.”
Reba than tried something new. She went from Hollywood to New York and Broadway. In 2001 she played Annie Oakley in Broadway play: “Annie get your Gun.” She won a Outer Critics Award for her performance. She then went back to Hollywood and starred in show called “Reba.” The show lasted six seasons.
She never lost her love for singing. She switched from MCA Records to “Valory” music label.
Reba also had many of her music items like costumes and personal possessions, vintage photographs and career spanning audio and video put on display at Country Music Hall of Fame. The exhibit was displayed from August 9th, 2013 to June 22nd, 2014.
The comic concludes with very personal telling how Reba’s 87 year old Grandma decided time to get herself baptized. This helped stimulate Reba’s ideas. In 2017, Reba released her first gospel album: “Sing it Now: Songs of Faith and Hope." It hit number one on Billboard Charts, and Reba won herself a Grammy.
I appreciated effort that went into this comic. The story and art were blended very well together. It is great addition to Female Force line of comics.
Reba is at present time 68 years old.
