I actually found “Clerks III” at my local library. I watched “Clerks” first movie many years ago. I think about 15 years ago. I even once saw a cartoon about “Clerks” long time ago on television. I watched many Kevin Smith movies through years. I think even live action Flash episode in last couple years.
The movie stars Brian O’ Halloran as Dante. Jeff Anderson as Randall. Hockey players Mike Zapcic, Ming Chen, Brian Johnson, also Jason Mewes, (Jay), Kevin Smith as Silent Bob, Rosario Dawson as Becky. Auditioning for movie parts were: Danny Trejo, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ben Afflick, Freddie Prince Jr, and Anthony Michael Hall. Those were only some that could identify.
I was impressed seeing Kevin Smith opening to movie. Thanking viewers for buying “Clerks II”. This allowed money to make third “Clerks” movie.
I really like early scene in movie of watching hockey scene on convenience store roof. I watched “Comic Book Men” on Pluto network last year. I recognized almost all playing hockey as people from “Comic Book Men”.
I felt and really got “Clerks III” DVD. I was really scared when Randall had heart attack. I know fictional person. I was still relieved when stint put in Randall opened flow of blood to heart. He was about to have widow maker heart attack.
I got why Randall wanted to make movie. I even appreciated when Silent Bob thought best idea to film in black and white. Kevin Smith explained this in limited dialogue.
I also liked how things were set up in future like kites. The kites would be huge part in movies conclusion. I also like how Randall explained why Randall and Dante and Elias all kept same names in movie from Clerks real life time line.
I had many moments when had tears. Dante going to graveyard. He went to visit Rebecca Scott Hicks. She was in past “Clerks” movie. Born 1979. Died 2006.Dante loved Rebecca. I could feel Dante’s pain when looked at her grave stone. She was his hope for love. Between movies killed by drunk driver. Dante’s deceased wife threw me for a curve when said had sex with so many famous people after died. I really felt emotion when Rebecca came back as ghost and told Dante “Book of Life” was still open to him. I was really not sure if dream or real.
I really appreciated all cameos in auditions for Randall’s idea for “Clerks” movie.
The references to porno’s were funny. Also, Easter Egg from another Kevin Smith movie.
The sacrifices to make Randall’s movie were astronomical. Cost was also very difficult for Dante. I saw another easter egg. Picture on kites was Jesus’s image from “Dogma”. Another Kevin Smith movie.
What really got me how Dante and Randall fought near end of movie. Dante has heart attack this was fore shadowed by Randall’s earlier heart attack.
There were so many things enjoyed. Silent Bob and Jay dancing. The conclusion with Dante really got to me.
One scene in all “Clerks movies did not like was donkey sex scene in “Clerks II”
I learned movies did not do well in movie theaters. Third movie came out during time of Covid. Hard to tell if movie would do well in theaters even now. Not everyone’s type of movie. Lots of profanity in all three movies. The movie cost seven million dollars and made 4.7 million. I know movie did not make lots of money. I am still glad movie was made. It premiered on September 4th, 2002 in Red Bank, New Jersey, before its release September 13th, by Lion’s Gate.
This was a movie that Kevin Smith had to tell. It was a New Jersey story. Also, Red Bank, New Jersey is location of the store in “Comic Book Men”. “Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash” comic book store. I still think great to see workers at store as hockey players on roof of “Quick Stop Groceries.”
The movie got me interested in ordering other Kevin Smith movies from library. I do not like many things in “Clerks” movies. Donkey idea was awful.
I did like how it made me aware of New Jersey and not just in mafia idea. I thought about how enjoyed seeing Stan Lee in “Mall Rats” and in “Comic Book Men”.
