This is very long book with first time team-up of Stephen King and his youngest son Owen King.
Something happens in this present time story when women go to sleep. They become surrounded in some sort of cocoon. This happens to even children and babies.
There is an lady named "Eve Black" her seems to be at nexus or center point of mystery. She does not form cocoon when falls to sleep. Cocoon happens or starts to form only moments after fall to sleep. Story happens within about one week. This happens all over the world. The focus though is at small Appalachian town in women's prison. This is where Eve was held as prisoner. The story talks about tree going to another place better for women. They had another form of society free from danger of abuse and other human difficulties. they could die on that side if killed on regular earth like as if people burned cocoons. It was amazing long book. It dealt with many of guilt's when lose persons in life. It talked about Tree like from Garden of Eden that gave doorway into other world. It talked about decisions women had to make to come back to land with men and children. Some topics were very mature and really bothered. I think best to leave them just as memories from reading story.
I think horror and mystery book.
It felt like story was wrote over only matter of few months. It was paced with very quick moving scenes. It took me about two weeks to read Sleeping beauties novel. I would rate book as more of an adult read due to language and one graphic sex scene between male prison guard and female prisoner. It though was important setting stage for future events.
I liked how device of moths were used to give feel that something was going to occur to person like cocoons or maybe auto accident. Stephen and Owen made me care about characters.
Sleeping Beauties is new territory for authors. I did not recognize characters from past works. Although Stephen King has wrote prison stories with "The Green Mile" and "The Shawshank Redemption." Never a women's prison story though. He also had character in prison in "The Stand" and "It."
This was very well wrote story. I have no idea who wrote individual pages. I also liked how at end of story afterword stated how authors undertook task of researching story.
Do not expect any artwork in novel. The words though are very visual.
This novel is not for everyone. I do think would make great TV mini-series or even a long movie at theater. Book was very visual and should be easy to translate into movie. I still think maybe even made into a long TV series of about eight to ten hour long episodes.
There also was a limited edition book published from Cemetery Dance Publications.
Stephen King has wrote many novels and short stories. I think some of my favorites were "The Eyes of the Dragon", "The Dead Zone", and "The Stand". He also has allowed some of his stories to be adapted into comic book form like " The Dark Tower : The Gunslinger" and "The Stand". Owen King is not very prolific. I think only has one novel published called "Double Feature." He also has book of short stories published. He even was editor of book about superheroes published in 2008.
Sleeping Beauties is a work of fiction.
