Interview with Ross Pearsall – Creator of Super Team Family: The Lost Issues
Interviewed by Paul Dale Roberts, President of Jazma Online!
Question: Ross, thank you for taking time out for this interview. I have always been fascinated with your work and I am a crossover fanatic and you make the dreams come true!
My first question. Your artwork is spectacular, have you ever worked for a professional comic book company?
Answer: To be clear, I do not illustrate the covers, they are mash-ups. I blend existing artwork from various sources together to create a new cover that never was.
Question: To get things started, please give the readers a taste of your crossover covers. What is your website address, so people can stop by?
Answer: braveandboldlost.blogspot.com is the place to see all the covers, over 2800 so far!
Question: As a kid growing up with comics, I have always loved crossovers from when Spider-Man first met Superman to Spider-Man’s Team-Up to Marvel’s Two in One. I just enjoyed seeing a first meeting between two superheroes who have never met or worked together. Why are you fascinated with crossovers?
Answer: Yes, I loved seeing the characters interact so my favorite comics were either teams like The Justice League or The Avengers or team-up books like Brave and the Bold or Marvel Two-In-One.
Question: You create covers of characters crossing over on your website called: Super-Team Family: The Lost Issues. and say something like this….”the greatest team-ups that never happened, but should have! In my mind, the crossover is happening, but in an alternate universe, a universe created by you….Ross Pearsall. Do you agree with my assessment?
Answer: Sure, why not? I call it Earth-STF!
Question: Why do you use the DC logo and leave out the Marvel logo, when most of the crossovers are utilizing DC and Marvel characters?
Answer: The concept is: What if the 70's DC team-up title Super-Team Family ran forever, and instead of just their own characters, DC could use anyone from anywhere? Hence, the DC logo even when neither character on it is from DC.
Question: What do some of the comic book creators think of your crossover covers?
Answer: I've received nothing but positive feedback so far, and a few have even shown support and given me suggestions for cover ideas.
Question: Do you ever get any copyright complaints?
Answer: No, the blog is a love letter to the characters and creators I love and people get that. It's not like I am selling anything.
Question: Have you ever considered putting out a book with all of your crossover covers?
Answer: I don't think that's possible since like I said I am using existing artwork of characters that I do not own.
Question: Some of your covers really surprise me. Recently you did a Thomas the Train meeting Doctor Who cover. I absolutely LOVED it! Keep up the good work! Can you give us your Facebook address for Super Team Family: The Lost Issues.

Question: If you don’t put a book out there, have you ever considered doing a YouTube film with all of your covers? It would be like a slide show with maybe some comments on the various covers, that would be a film I would love watching.
Answer: Never considered that. There were some podcasters that put out a video of them commenting on some covers, it was pretty cool.
Question: What is the most unusual crossover that you ever did and who were the characters?
Answer: Hmmm, maybe Charlie Brown and The Watcher?
