MARKOSIA ANNOUNCES OBSCURA
February 19, 2019- Markosia today announced Obscura, a graphic novel by Luke Cartwright and Lukasz Wnuczek. The gothic thriller weaves an exhilarating story from the creepiest aspects of the Victorian era.
Set in Van Diemen’s Land circa 1880, the book chronicles the life of child mortician WILLIAM MORIER, who grows up to become a fraudulent spirit photographer.
He digs up the corpses of rich men, props them up to look lively for his camera, and photographs them. Using primitive double-exposure, William makes fake ghost photos to sell to the men’s grieving widows- relieving of them of their fortunes.
But the scam unravels when the “spirit” from his most famous spirit photograph turns up alive and working as a butcher downtown.
Obscura’s macabre themes and wicked plot belies its warm heart, as William grows from a boy born into death, to a man who knows the beauty of life and is willing to fight for it.
