The stories in Teen Titans volume one were first published in single magazine form in The Brave and the Bold # 56 and 60, Showcase # 59 and Teen Titans 1-18 with copyright @ 1964-1968. The main characters were Robin - Wonder Girl – Aqualad and Kid Flash. There were other co-stars that made appearances like Beast Boy and even Speedy (from Green Arrow). The stories were very imaginative. The youths were given permission from Mentors to join together as Teen Titans. Hardest thing though about stories very dated in time. The talk was very 1960’s USA. Words like groovy and many other terms relating to that time period was in text. Beast Boy even joined group for issue # 6 of Teen Titans.
I think one of my favorite stories was in issue # 13 of Teen Titans “The TT’s Swingin’ Christmas Carol!” The script was by Bob Hanley and art by Nick Cardy. The story was a retelling of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens in Teen Titans style. The story was tweaked into more modern times. There were other things shown in other stories relating to 1960’s like mentions of The Beatles and John F. Kennedy. I did enjoy reading these interesting stories. I think age rating would be Young Adult. I just got book from library. I also liked that all covers were included with stories. I wish though that letter pages were included. It would be fun to read what others thought of Teen Titans. I imagine to cost prohibitive to put stories in color. I have also found Showcase Presents Teen Titans volume 1 for sale on several locations on the internet with simple google search.
Here is what back cover of Teen Titans # 1 volume 1 says:
Titans Together!
They could have easily been called The Junior Justice League, or “sidekicks” to such heroes as Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and The Flash. But lucky for us they weren’t.
When Teen heroes Robin, Aqualad and Kid Flash join together, they become a force to be reckoned with! With the quick addition of Wonder Girl, and occasional guest star speedy, the Teen Titans proved they were just as capable as saving the world as their mentors – while still being teens and having fun!
This collection includes the first groovy appearances of the Teen Titans from Brave and the Bold # 54 & 60 and SHOWCASE # 59, plus the first 18 issues of the TEEN TITANS series.
Written by Bob Haney and illustrated by Nick Cardy, this volume features additional contributions by Marv Wolfman & Len Wein, Irv Novick, Bruno Premiani and More!
