Max is a bunny. He is eating food from community garden. The bunny notices little later that all his other friend bunnies left him alone. There soon is a dog named Junkyard dog that appears in garden. He smells like never had bath in long time. The story is about how rabbit and dog become friends. This is done even though Max’s Mother does not want Max to be friends with Junk Yard dog. The story moves along really quickly. Lori DeMatteis did wonderful job on rather simple friendship story. This is children’s story.

There is also a sequel to Max called Max and Junkyard Dog Meet a Rascal. The second book deals with bulling even in animal kingdom between Max, Junk Yard Dog and a raccoon named Rascal over garbage can trash. There is even an informational page about what to do if bullied in real life.
According to back cover Michele Klecker-Sailor is in early childhood education. She resides in River Falls, Wisconsin with her husband Patrick and their dog Max.

Lori DeMatteis resides in St. Michael, Minnesota with her husband Monte and their two children, Sarah and Johnny. She is a stay-at-home mom.
