Here is what back cover states about movie.
Sophie Turner, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Laurence fire up an all-star cast in the spectacular culmination of the X-Men saga! During a rescue mission in space, Jean Grey (Turner) is transformed into the infinitely powerful and dangerous Dark Phoenix. As Jean spirals out of control, the X-Men must unite to face their most devastating enemy yet - one of their own.
Allen thoughts:
I had very hard time comprehending this movie. I read Dark Phoenix story line in my youth. I used to have subscription to Uncanny X-Men comic book series from Marvel comics. I think most comics at time cost about 35 cents each. I even found issue # 100 at Camp Brigadoon store at summer camp ground. My first actual issue of Uncanny X-Men was # 114. I was captured by stories of John Bryne as artist and Chris Claremont as writer of series.
Chris Claremont
Born November 25th, 1950.
1977-1991 stint as writer of Uncanny X-Men
John Bryne
Born July 6th, 1950
Artist for The Uncanny X-Men
Issues 108-143
Many aspects of movie come from foundation set in Uncanny X-Men comics by John Bryne and Chris Claremont. The movie had many problems with time lapses. I guess I was confused with Cyclops being in movie. I thought he died in earlier X-Men movie. I did not think movie was terrible. It was not that popular in movie theater. I watched movie on DVD. There was lots that was missed from comic book series. I would have liked to see Wolverine in movie. Phoenix death was nothing like John Bryne drew in Uncanny X-Men issue. I really did not feel lots of desire to like character of Jean Grey as Dark Phoenix. She was just to powerful. I was given feeling that Phoenix caused death of many others from invading aliens in movie that could shape shift. This was alluded to in dialogue. I wish had scene just giving example. This was again different than comic book version. It was Jean Grey as Phoenix that caused death of many causing for universe hunt for Jean Grey or Dark Phoenix. I think this translation would have worked better as cartoon and not live action movie. I did like that many characters from the Uncanny X-Men fictional universe were in movie. I think first appearance of Dazzler. I was stunned by death of one character in movie. I do not want to give name because major spoiler. I would suggest just watching movie for entertainment. The story does not fit in any shape or form into Infinity War story line.
